This post is the first in a 6 part series entitled “Who is Field?” taking place over the next 6 weeks. The purpose of the series is to pull open the curtain, as it were, and reveal what really makes us tick as a company. From where we sit, there is no better way to do this than through our core values; what they are, what they mean to us, how we practice them, and (perhaps most importantly) how they set us apart from any other fastener distributor in the industry. These values are:
Our goal for this series is simply to ensure that anyone who thinks of Field will automatically think of these 6 core values. These values are what are valuable to us as a company, as well as our value proposition to those with whom we do business. They are what sets us apart, and hopefully, what people take away from every interaction with our people.
Perhaps above all else, Field is a company with Integrity. It’s not merely something that we say, or something that we put on the wall of our building (though both of these things are true), it is something that we show through our actions. Our mission statement clearly outlines our overall aim: to have everyone who interacts with us love us. We know that the love that comes from our customers, suppliers, and those in our community has to be earned, and earned through action with integrity. It is therefore incumbent upon us to work tirelessly so that anyone who does business with us sees us for what we aim to be: a partner.
Our commitment to integrity shines inside and out of the company. We strive to hire people who demonstrate integrity, and we cultivate that integrity through our training and development program. In our eyes, the best way to do business is honestly, and on equal terms with our counterparts. We are confident in our ability to provide cost-savings through value-added services, like VMI and engineering; we need only help our business partners see that, and help them to realize these savings for their respective organizations. We are in a partnership, working for parallel goals, working with one another. When you enter into business with Field, you enter into business with a partner that you can trust, a partner that strives to continuously grow with you, for years to come.
We also work with integrity in our community. For over 20 years, Field has been an active and enthusiastic supporter of the greater Rockford community. We regularly give our time, effort, enthusiasm, and financial support to causes within the community. For the past 7 years, Field has had 100% employee participation in giving to the United Way, even as our workforce has nearly doubled during that time. Field also regularly contributes to, and helps organize events for local organizations, like the Rock Valley Blood Center, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Rockford Meld, and numerous others. But the value the company places on community involvement is even better seen through our individual employee involvement. Numerous employees lend their time, effort, and financial support to charities and community organization of their own accord. Field has and will continue to match, dollar-for-dollar, every contribution that an employee makes to charitable organizations of his or her choice. We also provide a full week of time off for employees who wish to devote their time to the community.
For us at Field, Integrity is a way of life, it is habitual, it is who we are, and how we go about everything. More than that, it is our commitment to our business partners, to those within our organization, and with our community. We aim for our business partners and communities to love us, and we like to think that this particular core value makes us that much easier to love.
