Field Fastener Emphasizes Lean in $3.5M Addition

Field recently completed work on a 46,000-square-foot addition to our facility in Chicago, Illinois, which focuses on operation and efficiency excellence.“Our goal for the facility is to be the most efficient warehouse in the industry,” Jim Derry told GlobalFastenerNews.com. “We worked with the best lean consultants in the industry to optimize the layout and workflow of the facility.”

The addition includes loading docks, a quality laboratory, a work-out facility, great room with fireplace and game room for Field’s 56 team members.

Founded in 1976 by Dick Field, the distributorship was acquired in 1990 by brothers Bill Derry and Jim Derry. Subsequently, Field Fastener sales have averaged a 19% annual growth rate.

Field boasts a 99.8% on-time delivery rate; a 99.96% rate of orders shipped correctly; and 99.64% inventory cycle counting accuracy.  Bill Derry was the 1997-98 president of the National Fastener Distributors Association, and Jim Derry was the 2010-2011 president.  Today, Field supplies fasteners, inventory management and technical support to 900 customers in 15 countries.
