Fieldamental #4: Make Quality Personal

Written by Field Fastener | December 02, 2015

MAKE QUALITY PERSONAL:

Good is not good enough.  Demonstrate a passion for excellence.  Take pride in the quality of everything you do.  Always ask yourself, “Is this my best work?”  Everything you touch has your signature and makes a statement about you.  Make sure it’s a statement of excellence.

The essence of this Fieldamental is for each of us to make sure that everything we do is done the best way we can, every time.  We need to put our “personal stamp of approval” on everything we do.

Making quality personal refers to the habit of making sure that everything you do is of the highest quality.  It means making sure that any transactions we process are done to the best of our ability.  This includes all communications we generate and interactions with customers, suppliers and other team members.  It means that when we walk into a meeting, we’re fully prepared and well-organized.  While it includes a focus on details, it’s much broader than that, it is really about demonstrating a personal pride in the quality of our work.

Here’s the other point I want you to remember:  The reason this is a Fieldamental is not because we’ll generate more business or because our customers & suppliers will like us more or because we’ll build a better reputation or even because we’ll be more profitable.  While these are likely results, they’re not the reason.  The reason this is important is because it matters to each of us as a personal value statement.  Deep in our hearts, we take great pride in knowing we’ve done our best.  In many ways, our work product is a symbol of who we are and what we value.  Make sure that your work is a statement of excellence and reflects the best you have to offer the world.
